Welcome to this FAQ/Walkthrough for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The concept
of this game is somewhat of a taster of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5, just
like GT4 Prologue was for GT4, however that wasn't an international
release. GT5P is somewhat of a small game compared to the previous entries
but that's because it is just as it's called, a prologue. That being said
though, it's still a pretty packed game with over 70 cars, 6 different
tracks and 12 configurations, and 57 events.

You'll find that this FAQ is pretty thorough, containing a full walkthough
that will guide you through the entire game, from buying your first car to
completing the very last event. Every time you need to buy a new car
you will be given an in depth analysis of potential cars to buy so you can
choose the best one.

In the Events section you'll find listings, descriptions, restrictions,
and other specifications of all the events in the game, however refer to
the walkthrough for event walkthroughs. There is also an overview of the
tracks and their configurations in the Courses section, a full car list
with each car's specifications in the Dealerships section, the Prize Car
List in its own section, and a section called Playing the Game where
you'll find tips on increasing your driving skills and general knowledge
of the game. In addition you can also find a list of all the cars you
will have to purchase to complete the game as well as some other cars
worth checking out for fun in the Mandatory and Notable Cars section.

Q: What is Gran Turismo 5 Prologue?
A: It is just as it's called, a prologue of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5.
The game wasn't nearly quite finished and fans had been waiting a long
time so it seems Polyphony decided to release this game to give fans a
taste and keep everyone more patient. It follows the tradition of Gran
Turismo 4, however GT4 Prologue was not available internationally like
GT5P. Some people call this game a demo but it really isn't. It's not
a completely full game but it doesn't cost full price, and it
   definitely is worth its value.

Q: How many cars and tracks are there?
A: 74 cars and 6 different tracks and 12 different layouts. The North
American release (Spec II) contained 71 cars however the Spec III update
   added three more.

Q: How many cars are on track in each race?
A: 16 for the larger tracks and 12 for the smaller ones, including you.

Q: Do you have a list of the cars in the game?
A: Yes. Check the Dealerships section.

Q: How many events are there in this game?
A: There's a total of 57 different events. 10 in each class (C, B, A, S)
and 17 one-make races in the dealerships.

Q: Is there vehicle damage?
A: No. It is expected for GT5, however.

Q: Are there licenses this time around?
A: No, not in Prologue but you can count on them being in GT5.

Q: Are there 50 different Skylines again like GT4?
A: No, there are actually only three R34s in the entire game. One is stock
and the other two are two very different Skylines that are both special
tuned cars. There are four other Skylines but they are V35s and one is
   a special tuned car.

Q: Is there any qualifying in this game like the previous games?
A: No, you'll always have to start in the starting position you're given.
I'd expect qualifying to definitely return for the full game though.

Q: What happened to tuning cars like the other games?
A: You can't buy any parts for your car since this is essentially just a
taster of GT5, but once you beat A class you'll unlock a feature called
Quick Tune which will let you tune you car and change settings.

Q: Are save files from the disc and downloadable versions compatible with
   each other?
A: No. If you download the game and make some progress, the disc version
will not recognize those save files. The same goes for using the disc
version first and trying to use your file for the PSN version.

Q: When GT5 comes out will we be able to transfer anything over to it like
   credits, cars, etc?
A: No one knows yet. It's possible we could be allowed to transfer over
cars but I wouldn't expect anything.

Q: Is the Logitech G25 racing wheel compatible with this game?
A: Absolutely.

Q: Can I use older Logitech wheels in this game?
A: Yes, you can use the Driving Force GT, Driving Force Pro, GT FORCE,
Driving Force, and the Driving Force EX. As for other wheels I'm not
sure, but if they are USB you might as well give them a try.

Q: Does this game have a multiplayer mode?
A: Yeah, you can play 2 player and race two cars against each other, and
you can also play 1 player online against 15 other drivers.

Q: How do I get the Spec III version?
A: A box should popup after you start the game telling you to update, but
if not, go to the Options and find the Network option and select
"Download Expansion Data." The download may take a few tries as it's
known to fail sometimes repeatedly, but it should work eventually.

Q: How do you turn off the race music?
A: Go into the options and turn down the race music under the sound
   category.

Q: How do you disable autosave?
A: Go to the options menu and go to Utilities in the Miscellaneous
   section. Uncheck autosave here.

Q: What is the song that plays before each race when it shows the car
   lineup?
A: It's called "Check" by Goose.

Q: How do you unlock the Ferrari F2007?
A: You need to beat S class and then you will be able to purchase it, but
you'll need to save up 2,000,000 credits to buy it.

Q: Why are some cars right hand drive in this game and others not?
A: The orientation of the driver's position is based on where the car
comes from. Japanese cars are right hand drive, American cars are left
   hand drive, and so on.

Q: Why is the Ford Focus ST right hand drive? Isn't it an American car?
A: There are two real divisions for the Ford Focus: USA and International.
The Focus in this game is an International one so it's right hand drive
because it's primarily a European car.

Q: How do you get the Nissan GT-R Black Mask?
A: There's no way to get it. You can see it racing in some events but
there's no way to actually acquire it.

Q: Where can I find the Ferrari California, Lotus Evora, and GT by
   Citroen?
A: You'll need to download the Spec III update and you'll be able to find
them in their respective car dealers.

Q: Can you use the tuned car versions for the dealership events?
A: No, you must use the standard manufacturer cars.

Q: How do you unlock some of the one-make races?
A: Every one-make race is unlocked from the beginning of the game. For the
manufacturers that don't have one-make races, the Events icon will be
shaded. Just because it's there doesn't mean there is an event.

Q: How can you look left and right in the in-car view?
A: First you'll need to go to the options menu and add these options to
the control list under Change Button Assignments. I suggest you make
left on the d-pad "Left View" and right "Right View". Doing so will
replace the d-pad steering controls which are useless anyway because of
   the analog stick steering.

Q: What is this In-Race Tune Menu you talk about in the Playing The Game
   section?
A: It is a menu where you can tweak a few different settings while you
drive during a race. It is not normally setup with the default controls
so you will need to set it up yourself. There a few things to do to set
it up properly so refer to the Controls segment of the Playing the Game
   section on the recommended setup.

Q: Is it normal that wheels unblur and are perfectly clear when the game
   is paused?
A: Yeah, that's the way the game is. It's odd but it's normal.

Q: What are events D-1 through D-17 in the walkthrough?
A: They are all the dealership events. They are not numbered like that or
anything but I did that myself to make the walkthrough more organizned.
Each event in that section of the walkthrough clearly states which car
   it is for.

Q: What do you mean by the driving line?
A: The driving line is the most efficient way to drive through the track.
It is a common concept in racing and you can turn the driving line on
in the driving options menu before a race or any other event, event in
   Arcade.

Q: I can't beat an event. Can you help me?
A: Scroll down to the event you're stuck on in the walkthrough and give it
   a good read.

Q: Does this FAQ have individual event walkthroughs?
A: Yes it does, in the walkthrough section.

Q: What is the best first car to buy?
A: The best choice would be the Honda Integra Type R since it's one of the
quickest you can get and you'll need it to complete an event in both C
and B class. You can also use it for the FF races in C class as well as
the Sunday Cup so right away you can complete 7 races of C class with
it. The Mazda RX-8 is the best car you can buy at first but you will
only be able to complete the four Sunday Cup races with it before
you'll need to buy another car since it's FR, and the Integra is almost
just as good as it anyway.

If you have any other questions, send me an email. Refer to the contact
info at the top of this FAQ.

This section will help you with the game basics, tips on playing, and
other general knowlege. There are four sections here which include Menus,
Game Basics, Gameplay Modes, Controls, and Tuning.

M E N U S
__________________________________________________________________________

This section explains several different menus in detail, including what
they lead to and what can be done where.

_________

MAIN MENU
_________

After the introductory movie you'll see several options which are all
listed and explained below.

News
____

This is where you'll find any news regarding updates, added Gran Turismo
TV content, anything to do with online mode, and anything else. Check out
the news every once in a while to see what's going on if you're
interested. This, however, requires an internet connection.

TV
__

This is a whole new feature to Gran Turismo. With Gran Turismo TV you can
watch many car related videos from different subscribers, including the
famous Top Gear TV show. You do have to pay for the videos however,
although there is a bunch of free content in the Gran Turismo section.
Once you select the TV option from the main menu it will take a few
minutes to load, so don't go to it if you don't truly want to check it out
or watch some videos.

Online
______

This is where you can play online against other players around the world.
Obviously you'll need an internet connection to play online as well as a
PSN account. Be a courteous driver instead of ramming people off the road,
taking shortcuts, and driving dirty to help make the Gran Turismo
community a better place.

Rankings
________

Here you can see the world rankings for lap times on each track with each
car. When you complete a lap in a time trial in Arcade mode, you will be
informed of your rank and you can check it out here afterwards. You can
also download replays of the top 10 rankings for each track and each car.

Arcade
______

This is where you can play a quick race against several AI opponents or go
on a free time trial or drift trial by yourself. Choose your track and
configuration (use down and up on the d-pad to change) and then the race
mode you want to play. Unlike the previous games though, you'll only be
able to use your own cars here so you won't be play arcade unless you have
a car. Check out arcade mode in a below section for more details.

2P Battle
_________

Here you can race two cars against each other which two people, however
just like the previous games you won't be able race against any AI
opponents.

Events
______

This is where you'll find events to race in once you have a car. Initially
there are three classes -- C, B, A -- but once you beat A class you'll
unlock S class. Each class increases with difficulty and the speed of cars
the higher you go up.

Garage
______

Your garage is where you'll find all your cars. Visit here to take a look
at your owned cars or get inside them to race. You'll also have to option
to go to your garage from the events menu right before you race which is
very helpful instead of having to go back to the main menu.

Dealerships
___________

This is the place to go to buy a new car. You'll find 26 car manufacturers
here initially and five more for tuned cars once you unlock S class.
Browse each dealer and choose the cars that appeal to you when you have
the credits to do so.

Replay
______

This option allows you to load a replay to watch, including one of your
own that you've saved or one you've downloaded from the rankings list.

Options
_______

This is how you access the options menu to change a bunch of things like
the units of measure in the game (speed, weight, etc.) and other things
like controller/racing wheel settings and sound. Check out the options
menu in the section below for a full briefing of what can be done here.

Manual
______

Here you can read an in game version of the user manual.

Save
____

This is how you save your game on demand. Normally whenever you do
anything and return to the main menu the game will autosave so this
function is essentially useless, however you can disable autosave in the
options menu. If you do that, make sure to save your game with this option
whenever you need to.

____________

Options Menu
____________

There are three different sections here with different options, including
General, Hardware, Logitech Racing Wheels, and Miscellaneous. The options
you can change in these sections are explained below.

Arcade/2P
_________

This is how you change the number of laps for each arcade or 2 player
race. You can move it from 1 to 99 or infinite on the far left.

Demo
____

Here you can control all demo options including whether the opening movie
plays and what plays in the main menu demos, and also the timing of demos.

Units
_____

In this option you can change the units of measure used in the game which
includes distance, power, torque, and temperature.

Vibration Settings
__________________

Allows you to turn vibrate on or off, however you'll need to have a
controller like the Dual Shock to experience it.

Change Button Assignments
_________________________

This will allow you to change the controls for the game for player 1 and 2
individually. The button in question will be highlighted in the middle of
the screen. Press X and select something to change it. I suggest you keep
the standard controls since they're great already, although something you
might want to add is the ability to look left at right in the in-car view
while racing. I suggest you make the left d-pad button the left view and
the right button right view. This will replace the normal steering
function of the d-pad but it's useless anyway since you have the analog
sticks.

Audio Settings
______________

Here you can change many sound settings including the volume of the menu
music, menu sound effects, race music, race sound effects, replay music,
replay sound effects, and the type dynamic range of the sound.

Display Settings
________________

This option will allow you to change the resolution, display mode,
brightness, and display size for standard definition.

Steering Settings
_________________

These settings allow you to change the steering type, feedback strength,
and turn power-assisted steering for steering wheels.

Driving Force Wheels
____________________

There are several options for different Logitech wheels here including the
Driving Force GT, Driving Force Pro, GT Force, Driving Force, and Driving
Force EX. These options allow you to change to button configurations and
controls for each wheel (player 1 and 2).

Network
_______

This lets you change network settings like UPnP settings, maximum upload
rate, as well as the ability to clear system cache, delete expansion data,
check for and download expansion data on startup, expansion data download,
and disable advanced download feature.

Utilities
_________

Here you can change whether the opening movie plays during startup, turn
autosave off and on, and delete course records. Once you delete course
records, they're gone for good.

___________

ARCADE MENU
___________

After choosing a track in Arcade you are left with the following options.

Single Race
___________

Compete against 11 or 15 other cars in a quick race, depending on the race
track.

Time Trial
__________

Race by yourself to perfect your lap times.

Drift Trial
___________

A special mode where you are driving by yourself and drifting through
different sections of the track.

Course Guide
____________

This option includes a watchable video with more details about the track
you are at and its surrounding area. There is no course guide for the High
Speed Ring since the track and its location do not exist. Be sure to check
them all out for the other tracks.

Quit
____

Exits back to the track select menu.

_________

RACE MENU
_________

Start
_____

This starts the race or whatever event you are competing in.

Replay
______

Here you can watch your race replay once you're finished.

Save Replay
___________

Use this option to save your replay so you can watch it another time from
the main menu.

Driving Options
_______________

This allows you to check and change the driving options. See the Driving
Options Menu below for more details.

Quick Tune
__________

This leads to the Quick Tune menu where you can tune your car. You must
complete A class to unlock this menu, and remember that you won't always
be able to access this menu (for example, in time trial mode). Refer to
the Quick Tune Menu below for more details.

Exit
____

This allows you to reture to the main menu.

AI Level
________

This controls how skilled the opponent AI is. The higher you go, the more
skilled they get. This option is only available during a Single Race in
Arcade mode.

No. of Laps
___________

Here you can change the number of laps for your current Single Race. I
don't recommended setting it too high unless you really want to do that,
and infinite is an interesting setting if you just want to mess around,
although it's not likely you'll ever do even 99 laps or anything around
there.

Transmission
____________

Choose between an automatic or standard transmission. With automatic, your
car will shift up and down automatically once it reaches the appropriate
speed, whereas with manual you will control upshifting and downshifting
with R2 and L2 respectively. I definitely recommend at least trying this.
It may be a bit difficult at first if you're not used to it, since you'll
need to focus on driving through the course as well, but if you keep at it
you'll just get used to it and it will become just another part of regular
driving. It's very fun too.

Active Steering
_______________

This gives you more stability while steering if you set it to Mild or
Strong, especially at higher speeds. If you want to try it, go ahead, but
it shouldn't really be that necessary.

Driving Physics
_______________

Here you can change between the two driving modes, Standard and
Professional. Standard is a more arcadish style and Professional is a more
realistic one where you really won't be able to just keep the pedal to the
floor all the time. You'll need to learn how to use throttle correctly and
drive more like a professional driver. Choose whatever style you prefer,
although if you're using mostly Standard, I suggest you give Professional
a good try as well. It's hard, especially at first, but you'll get used to
it eventually and you may find it more rewarding.

Active Stability Management (ASM)
_________________________________

This is another handling stability feature, however it mostly keeps your
car more stabile to prevent skids and slides. When you lose steering
control, the brakes are automatically applied to effectively steer your
car where you want to go. Again you can try this out but it shouldn't be
that necessary for you.

Driving Line
____________

With this option on, a digital line will appear around the track that
shows the optimum racing line which is very helpful for beginners. It will
be a dotted blue line when you should be entirely on the throttle and
solid red when you should be fully on the brakes. If you're new to this
series or are having difficulties, turn this on to give you some helpful
assistance.

Front Tires/Rear Tires
______________________

Here you can select the type of tires to put on your car. During S class
races what you put on your car is very important since it will be involved
in the calculation of your performance points, so putting on great tires
may not allow you to do much or anything power/weight/aerodynamics-wise.
At the same time, while non-performance tires like Normal tires may give
you more room for these things, your car may not perform well at all.
Tires are very important for every vehicle so make a wise choice. Although
you can put different tires on the front and rear, I suggest you put the
same ones on the front and back for the most consistency and stability.

QUICK TUNE MENU
_______________

In the Quick Tune menu you'll be able to keep three different setups: A,
B, c. Switch between these from the drop down list at the very top. Once
in the Quick Tune menu, the following things can be changed.

Every time you exit this menu after changing something you will first be
asked if you'd like to keep your changes and exit the menu. Selecting Yes
will keep your changes and take you back to the race menu. Selecting No
will bring up another popup menu asking if you'd like to discard your
changes and quit. If you select Yes your changes won't be applied and
you'll return to the race menu, and if you select no you settings will
stay the same and you'll stay in the menu. For more information regarding
tuning, refer to the Tuning section below.

IN-RACE TUNE MENU
_________________

This is a special menu where you can tune a few things while you're
driving in a race. With the default control setup it is not configired,
but you can assign all five of its controls to the controller in the
options menu under Change Button Assignments -- for a recommended setup,
refer to the Controls section below. Anyway, there are five different
things in this menu that you can change once it pops up which are:

TCS (Traction Control System)
4WDtq (4WD torque distribution)
ASM (Active Stability Management)
ABS (Assisted Braking System)
BRK.F (Brake Balance Front)
BRK.R (Brake Balance Rear)

With the suggested control setup in the Controls section below, press R1
to pop up the menu during the race and use up and down to scroll through
the options. Use left and right the change each setting and press R1 to
exit the menu when you're done, or just leave it there while you race.

G A M E  B A S I C S
__________________________________________________________________________

This section will explain some of the basics in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue to
help you with your racing.

Driving Physics
_______________

There are two different driving physics in this game: Standard and
Professional. Standard is more like the previous games whereas
Professional is even more realistic and really stresses car control. You
cannot just keep the pedal to the floor on Professional, since you will
over rev the engine and bring too much power to your wheels, causing you
to lose control. Traction control does help with this however, although
you'll still need to be careful especially with higher powered cars. If
you've been using mostly Standard, give Professional a try and see how you
like it. It will verly likely be difficult at first but give it a chance
and see if you can get better at it.

Slipstreaming
_____________

This is a very important concept in this game, especially for tracks that
have you maintain a high level of speed. You may have heard the term
slipstreaming before, or drafting as well. Slipstreaming involves
positioning you car behind a car in front of you so that the lead car acts
somewhat as a shield and blocks some of the air pressure so your car has
less drag. Therefore this will allow you to drive faster while behind a
lead car, and this is effective within a fair distance from other cars.
You will know you are slipstreaming when you hear the wind resistance turn
silent as you move behind a lead car.

During oval races and on other long straight aways, it is very important
to do this to get ahead of other cars more quickly. There are a few
challenges and time attacks in the events where you will absolutely need
to master slipstreaming to have any chance at winning, so over the course
of the game, no matter what track, stay behind lead cars to get the most
slipstream you can out of them, and only move around them once you get
within passing distance.

Drifting
________

Chances are you're familiar with this term. Drifting involves getting your
car sideways and keeping it that way through a corner. You can do this by
throwing your car into a car through weight transfer, heavy braking and
aggressive steering, and also pulling the e-brake. Drifting is not a real
part of the event part of the game, however there is a Drift Trial mode in
Arcade that you can try out. Just try some maneuvers to see what you can
do and you should eventually get better at it, although it may time time.
Also remember that it's much easier to drift and get sideways with
Professional mode physics. Lower grip tires will also help but it's also
harder to keep your car under control with these tires.

Driving Line
____________

If you're new to this series or game, you may find the driving line a very
helpful feature. During the Driving Options before starting a race or time
trial you can turn on the Driving Line. Now when driving on the track you
will see a digital line which is the optimum driving line for that track.
It will be a dotted blue line when you should be fully on the throttle and
solid red when you should be braking. Stay on the line and brake whenever
you are shown that you need to and try to accelerate when the line turns
blue again.

Transmission
____________

You have the ability to choose either an automatic or manual transmission
in the Driving Options before every event or arcade race. If you're
someone who just naturally uses automatic, I definitely recommend that you
give manual a try. First of all, not only does this give you better car
control, it will help you with your driving since you will have more
control and get a better feeling of being one with the car. At first it
may seem like a bit too much of a distaction while driving but don't let
that steer you away. After a while you'll just get used to it and it even
be a distraction at all but instead just come another part of your driving
just like braking and turning. I'd say it definitely makes the experience
more enjoyable instead of having your gears shift automatically. With a
manual transmission, use R2 and L2 to shift up and down respectively.

Camera View
___________

There are four different camera views in Prologue which are: first person
bumper cam, in-car cam, roof cam, and chase cam. I suggest you try them
all a fair bit to get a good feeling of them and choose the one that you
feel most comfortable with. Most people tend to use the bumper cam the
most, however I for one use the chase camera the most often by far. It's a
very fun view to use, I'd say, and you can also see your car the entire
time which is a nice thing as well. The in-car view is beautiful and is
another great view which is very fun to use. You even have a rearview
mirror and side mirrors to look at without pressing any buttons. The roof
cam is an interesting one as well since it's fixed in the exact same
position the entire time and the bumper cam is the most basic view but
arguably the best for most players.

Driving Penalties
_________________

Normally you won't get any driving penalties in class C, B, and A, however
they are introduced in class S and they are also in the dealership events.
Driving penalties consist of three different things: taking shortcuts,
contacting walls, and hitting other cars. If you do one of these things
while in one of these races, you may receive a five second penalty. What
this consists off is cutting your throttle for five seconds, however you
will not slow down in any other way like braking, and you can still turn,
downshifting and do other things to control your car until you regain
power. Whenever you find yourself taking a very wide exit or going off the
track a bit, return to the road as quickly as you can in terms of distance
to avoid any penalties if necessary.

Performance Points
__________________

You will unlock the Quick Tune feature once you beat A class which will
allow you to tune your cars. When in the tuning menu you can see how much
PP, or performance points, you car currently has. Changing either power,
weight, tires, or aerodynamics will change your PP. The higher you can get
it, the better your car will perform, however remember there are PP
restrictions for the races in S class and also in Online mode.

Autosave
________

Normally autosave will be on so after you do certain things the game will
save. When it is on it will save whenever you finish an event, buy a car,
compete in arcade mode, change options, and return to the main menu from
online mode. If you ever want to turn it off, you can do so in the
Utilities section of the options menu.

G A M E P L A Y  M O D E S
__________________________________________________________________________

Here we will go through the different game modes.

___________

ARCADE MODE
___________

After going to Arcade mode you have the option to choose one of the six
tracks and twelve configurations. After doing so you'll be given different
race mode options.

Single Race
___________

This allows you to compete in a quick race against 11-15 opponents,
depending on the track. Access the Quick Tune menu to tune your car if you
wish, if you have unlocked it.

Time Trial
__________

In a time trial you'll be able to roam freely by yourself and try to
complete the fastest lap you can. Once you complete a lap, you will be
informed of your new ranking if you are connected to PSN. For time trials
you won't be able to access the Quick Tune menu and tune your car
presumably to make it fair for the online rankings, however even when
offline you won't be able to do any tuning.

Drift Trial
___________

This is a new edition to Gran Turismo. In a drift trial you will pass
through different designated areas on each course where you must drift to
gain points. The longer you drift without stopping, the more points you'll
get, and your points will be totalled up at the end of each section. Once
you complete a drift trial you will be informed of your new ranking if
connected to PSN. Unlike time trial mode, you can tune your car here, but
only if you've unlocked Quick Tune, since the idea here is drifting and
not getting quick laps.

_______________

SIMULATION MODE
_______________

There is no actual "Simulation Mode" but the class C, B, A, S events make
up the Simulation mode in GT5P, just like the previous games. First all
you have unlocked is class C, and you'll need to complete every event in
order to move on the class B, and so on. There are also 17 car dealer
events for you to compete in as well. Between the main four class events
there are three different types of race modes which are the following.

Race
____

This is the most common type where you will race in either a 12 or 16 car
field, depending on the size of the race tracks. Eiger Nordwand and London
have 12 cars field and the rest have 16 cars. The idea here is obviously
to pass everyone and win the race, however finishing in the top three will
be good enough to complete the event.

Time Attack
___________

In these events you will start in the pits with a full field of cars
racing around on the track, however you won't be racing them. You'll have
ten minutes to beat the target times listed in the top right of the
screen. To complete the event you will only need to beat the bronze target
time, however you should always aim for gold. To get gold in these events
requires skill, patience, and practice. You will also need to utilize the
other cars on track to trim your lap time. You can do this by driving
directly behind them so they reduce the drag that reaches your car and
therefore will will be able to drive more quickly -- this is called
slipstreaming is is very common in motorsport. Once you beat the target
time you can wait for the time to run out or just quit the event.

One Lap Mission
_______________

These are missions where you'll start in dead last of a 16 car field and
you'll have one lap to win the race. Finishing in the top three will
complete the event, however always aim for first. These events are quite
difficult and get even more difficult in the later classes. They will
require a lot of skills, patience, and practice much like the time attacks
and you will likely get frustrated a lot during them. If having too much
difficulty, it may be a good idea to stop for a while and try again
another time. It may be difficult to get to first and win the race but
when you do it is a very satisfying feeling.

___________

ONLINE MODE
___________

If you have internet access and a PSN account you can play online races
with people around the world. Unfortunately you can't make your own rooms
or races and must play one of the several different events in the online
mode list. There are only two different types of events during online play
which are listed below. By the way, after participating in online events,
the game will not autosave whenever you're in online mode so you must
return to the main menu to save your game and keep any earned credits.

Race
____

This is the most common type of event online. Most events will be races
consisting of 8 to 16 players including yourself. If you read the events
carefully the will say what type of cars can be used, what track it is on,
which physics mode is used, and how many players the maximum is, as well
as the performance points amounts for certain events. Choose the events
which appeal to you the most and if you have the right cars to race in
those events. Go to your garage in the sub menu to choose your car before
you start the race. Every once in a while these events will change.

Time Trial
__________

There will usual be a few time trial events in the online menu where you
will race by yourself aiming to get the best time you can to compete with
other people around the world. Before entering, go to your garage from the
event sub menu and choose the car the time trial is meant for. These time
trials will be closed after a certain amount of time and new ones will
come later on, just like the races. You can check the rankings while a
time trial is still in progress or once it is closed by selecting Rankings
from the event sub menu.

The following are the default controls using the SIXAXIS and DUALSHOCK
controllers.

X                    Accelerate, Select
Square               Brake
Cricle               E-brake, Back, Cancel
Triangle             Reverse

L1                   Rear view
R1                   Zoom in
R2                   Shift up (manual)
L2                   Shift down (manual)

Right Analog Stick   Accelerate, Brake
Left Analog Stick    Steering, Left, Right

D-Pad Left           Steering, Left
D-Pad Right          Steering, Right
D-Pad Up             Turn Ghost off/on

Start                Pause
Select               Change view

These are the default controls, however there are some other controls that
are not used with this setup. This includes the left and right views and
the in-race tuning menu (RA function) which you'll find in the Change
Button Assignments menu. If you want to be able to look left and right
from the in-car view or outside of it, add the "Left View" and "Right
View" to your control setup. Normally steering takes up the left and right
D-pad slots but the D-pad is useless for steering anyway so you can make
left view left and right view right. If you want to keep the D-pad
steering however, you can make left and right view L3 and R3 respectively.

As for the in-race tuning menu, there are five separate controls for it
so you'll need to really find a special way to slip it into your control
setup. You'll pretty much have to sacrifice the left and right views if
you've set that up, unless you can figure out another way to set up
everything. Anyway, the setup I suggest you use is to make R1 "(RA
function) Show menu". As for the (RA function) Select + and - controls I
suggest you make them up and down on the D-pad respectively, which will
have you sacrifice the Ghost turn on/off control (unless you can fit it
somewhere else). Then make the (RA function) Adjust + and - controls right
and left on the D-pad, sacrificing the steering or left/right controls if
you have them set up. By all means, try another setup if you can figure
out a way to have every option you want in here.

T U N I N G
__________________________________________________________________________

This section will walk you through the basics of tuning and setting up
your car. The following descriptions can be found scrolling across the
bottom of the screen in the Quick Tune menu for each of the following
categories.

Power
_____

Allows you to change the characteristics of your engine. Increasing this
setting gives you more power and increased torque at high RPM, but will
reduce power and torque at the low to middle RPM ranges. If you change the
setting lower, power and torque will be reduced at high RPM but you will
increase your engine's output at the low to middle RPM range. The extent
of change to power and torque will vary depending on whether the car is
equipped with a supercharger. Adjusting engine tuning will affect the
Performance Points of your car so you should adjust the settings to cater
for the regulation of the events you wish to participate in.

Weight
______

The overall weight of the car can be changed with this option. If you
raise the number the car's weight increase, and conversely lowering the
number reduces the weight. A lower weight will improve acceleration,
stopping power and cornering ability. This setting will affect your
performance points.

Tires
_____

Selects which tires are equpped on your car's front/rear wheels. There are
nine types of tires, ranging from the lowest-grip N1 to the
ultra-high-grip R3 racing tire.

Downforce
_________

Adjusts the front/rear downforce. The higher the number, the greater the
downforce, and the better your car will corner. Changing this setting will
affect your performance points.

Ride Height
___________

Adjusts your front/rear ride height. The lower the ride height, the better
the car will perform, but set it too low and you risk having too little
room in your suspension stroke, causing the car to hit the ground. You can
also change the car's weight distribution by adjusting your front and rear
ride height. If the front is lower, your car will oversteer, and if the
rear is lower, it will understeer.

Spring Rate
___________

Adjusts the front/rear spring rate. The higher this number, the harder the
springs, and the less the car will move up and down. When your ride height
is lowered or you are using higher grip tires, you will need to increase
this setting, but springs that are too stiff will result in less contact
between tires and track, so be careful.

Damper
______

Adjusts your front/rear dampers. The higher the number, the more strongly
they will compress the springs, and more of the tire will be in contact
with the road. However, if set too high, the springs will become too
stiff, and less of the tire will end up in contact with the road.

Toe
___

This option adjusts the front/rear toe angle. When viewing the car from
above, a toe-out setting would show the wheels facing outward from the car
and toe-in would face inward. If the number is + this will set to toe-in,
with - being toe-out. If you set the front wheel to a slight toe-out
angle, steering response will be slightly reduced however tire grip will
also be improved.

Camber Angle
____________

The camber angle is the angle between your wheels and the vertical axis
when looking at your car from the front. You can adjust the camber angle
of your front/rear wheels here. The higer the value, the greater the
camber angle, and more of the tires will be in contact with the road, but
set it too high and braking may be impeded. By changing the camber angle
